Blessed Are You, Lord God

Based on the “take and receive” prayer of St. Ignatius. It is God's labor of love to bless us and bring us to freedom. In return we offer our understanding, memory, liberty and will—the gift of our lives. Five verses. SMATB

Lyric Outtake

The bread of our poor understanding,
The wine of memory,
All that we have in your hands, Lord.
Take, receive.

The calling of holy desire,
Our will, our liberty,
All that we are in your hands, Lord.
Take, receive.

Refrain:
Blessed are you, Lord God of all creation.
Through your goodness we offer the gift,
the gift of our lives.

Quotes to Consider

"Accordingly, the Take, Lord, and Receive prayer starts from a recognition that God shares everything, including the persons of the Trinity… the Spirit stirs up in retreatants the longing to share all they have and are with God" (English, 238).
